Dr Colin Knight – Non Executive Chairman
Colin is a Mining Engineer and Economic Geologist and since 1983, has consulted on mining finance and policy to London stockbrokers and banks, the World Bank, and the Commonwealth Secretariat in developing countries in Africa. Between 1974 and 1983, he worked for the Rio Tinto group in London in exploration, budget control, project appraisal, and negotiations with J/V partners and the government. Between 1972 and 1974 he was Mining Analyst and Minerals Industry Adviser to McEwen Securities in Canada, as well as a consultant to Metallgesellschaft AG. Between 1969 and 1972 he began as the North American Exploration Manager for Metallgesellschaft, then became the Exploration Manager for Metall Canada, a Metallgesellschaft subsidiary. He worked in academia between 1967 and 1969 and in the Canadian mining industry for various mining operations between 1956 and 1967. Colin has a Mining Engineering degree from the Camborne School of Mines, and an Economic Geology degree and a PhD in Economic Geology from the University of Toronto. He joined London Mining in June 2005.
Christopher Brown – Managing Director
Chris is a founding director of London Mining and has over 15 years' experience in the resources industry, including 11 years as a natural resources analyst for seven different firms in Australia, Ireland and Great Britain, and four years as a geologist in Australia. He has a Bachelor of Science Honours degree specialising in geology and a Masters of Business Administration, both from the University of Western Australia. Prior to setting up London Mining, he spent three and a half years as a Resources Analyst within the Corporate Sales Department of UK-based institutional stockbrokers, Williams de Broë Plc, where he was instrumental in helping it to make it one of the most successful corporate finance houses for mining finance in London during 2003 and 2004. In 2004, he was briefly a Non-Executive Director of Australia-based NiCu Metals, which later acquired the Jack Hills iron ore project in Western Australia and successfully re-listed as Murchison Metals.
Graeme Hossie – Corporate Development & Deputy Managing Director
Graeme is a founding director of London Mining and is an experienced corporate finance director and business developer particularly specializing in new and developing ventures. His background includes management consulting with Bain & Company, venture capital raising with Piper Trust, and several years as executive management in growing entrepreneurial ventures. In 1988, he co-founded Steribottle Ltd to commercialize a breakthrough baby product from its first concept and developed the company through successive venture funding rounds to become a business with strong intellectual property, successfully selling products in mainstream UK distribution and licensed around the world. He has founded and/or built a number of businesses in various industry sectors including software and IT, internet services, consumer goods and natural resources. He has assisted resource companies through successful London Stock Exchange AIM flotations, and is on the board of or advisor to several high growth companies and an early stage venture investment fund. Graeme has an Honours degree in Business Administration from Ivey Business School in the University of Western Ontario.
Rachel Rhodes – Finance Director
Rachel is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, having qualified with Coopers & Lybrand in London in 1996. She has over 10 years' experience in the mining sector, of which the last five years were in key financial roles with Anglo American plc. During this time at Anglo American, Rachel successfully led major corporate transactions, including the coversion to International Financial Reporting Standards and more recently, the financial workstreams on the demerger of Mondi plc, Anglo's paper and packaging business, which was dual listed on the London and Johannesburg stock exchanges. Rachel most recently served as Lead Corporate Finance Manager within Anglo American's corporate finance department.
Dr Hans Kristian Schønwandt – Non Executive Director
From 1998 until he retired in October 2005, Hank was the Deputy Minister, Head of the Bureau of Minerals and Petroleum (BMP) for the Greenland Government. There, he was responsible for establishing the BMP in Nuuk, Greenland, and advising politicians in Greenland and Denmark on all aspects concerning the raw material sector. He was also responsible for developing the authority’s strategy within the hydrocarbon and mineral sector, which was approved by the governments of Greenland and Denmark in 2003 and 2004 respectively. Between 1987 and 1998 he was Head of Department of Economic Geology at the Geological Survey of Denmark, where he streamlined the Geological Survey’s service to the mining industry through a number of initiatives. He was a technical adviser to the committee which recommended a modernisation of the Mineral Resource Act for Greenland in 1990, which directly led to increased mineral exploration activity in Greenland. Between 1977 and 1987 he was Associate Professor in Economic Geology at the University of Aarhus, Denmark and between 1969 and 1977 a Research Fellow and Assistant Professor at the Technical University of Denmark. Hank has a PhD in economic geology from the University of Copenhagen and joined London Mining in December 2005.
Sir Nicholas Bonsor – Non Executive Director
A practicing barrister specializing in regulatory and commercial law, Sir Nicholas was a member of British Parliament from 1979 to 1997 where he specialized in Foreign Affairs and Defence, serving as Chairman oand Vice Chairman of numerous Backbench Committes and finally as Chairman of the Defence Select Committee (HCDC) from 1992-1995 and Minister of State at the Foreign Office 1995-1997. He has served as Chairman of a number of charities, including the Verdin Trust for the Mentally Handicapped, the Cyclotron Trust for Cancer Treatment and the Baronets Trust for Children’s Hospitals. Nicholas Bonsor was a Member of the Council of Lloyd’s from 1988-1992 and Vice-Chairman of the Hardship Committee 1990-1993. He is currently the Honorary Colonel of the Royal Buckinghamshire Hussars in which he served from 1964-1969 and Chairman of the Buckinghamshire Reserve Forces and Cadets Association. He was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire in 2007. He is a Freeman of the City of London (1988), a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. Sir Nicholas practiced as a Barrister from 1967 to 1975 and holds a Master of Arts in Jurisprudence from Oxford University.
Malcolm Groat– Non Executive Director
Malcolm is a Fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce, a Fellow of the Institute of Directors, and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. In the mining sector, he serves as Non-Executive Director with Tengri Coal PLC of Mongolia as well as with London Mining PLC, where he was previously the Finance Director. For some years, he has served as Non Executive Director at Community Foods Group (formerly Milk Marque - the old Milk Marketing Board). Malcolm holds an MA from St Andrews University, Scotland and an MBA from Warwick University, England. His career started with Pricewaterhouse Coopers in London and developed through CFO, COO and CEO roles within large global businesses. His first venture in mining listed on AIM in London in 2005.
